Tin Hau has become a bit of a foodies’ paradise recently, with high-quality restaurants cropping up everywhere. The latest is A La Umai, a Japanese-cum-French restaurant. You’d never realize this restaurant – on top of an unlikely looking commercial building - has the best harbor view in the city, with Central to the left and Tsim Sha Tsui to the right. The restaurant makes the most of its location with dim lights and plenty of sleek black. But what impressed us more was the food – the mentaiko salad (marinated fish roe) was fresh and delicious. The steak we ordered was 360-day grain-fed steak from Australia – a juicy, perfectly cooked slab of beefy heaven. The manager warned us against the monkfish cheek on the menu and said they were serving tuna cheeks instead. Lucky for us, because it was a delight. It tastes like tuna, but firmer. If they could just train their waiters, who were extremely polite though too green, then this would have been a five-star review, hands down.
